District 25 is generally a new district, covering 12+ counties from Johnson County near Fort Worth to Hays County. Since Austin area Democrats used to elect Lloyd Doggett in 25, the Republicans carved up his district. He's now in 35. We need more women in Congress that will work together.
The voters of the District have a choice. I want to represent the people of this very beautiful, scenic area of Texas in order to maintain this great quality of life here and that there might be more good jobs. Water is an essential element of job growth as well as living comfortably.
While many feel this is a tough race, I'm optimistic for 3 reasons: One, a lot more people from other areas are moving into the area; Two, because Congress has become so unpopular with all their do-nothing shenanigans, since the Tea Party gained seats in 2010; and Three, many people who live in this area are retired seniors, and they have a problem with a Congress that wants to give them a voucher to buy insurance, rather than receiving their Medicare benefits. We should get something for these congressional salaries. We aren't. If there's a good bill that helps the nation, the GOP always attaches an unreasonable amendment.
I would like to leave to our children and grandchildren a livable planet with safe air and water and a normal climate. Last year Austin experienced more than 100 days of over 100 degrees, some going up to 108. This was very unusual, but it meant that the lakes that supply most of the water for the metropolitan area dropped significantly and the fire danger in the area continues extreme. Climate- change policy is one of my top priorities.
Let's Keep America's Promises to our people- seniors, veterans, students, and hard-working people. The time to worry about national debt is NOT during a recession- and the GOP were not pushing that when they had the White House.
The other money we should worry about is the Super-PAC money buying favors from politicians. When we have a Supreme Court, so far to the right that they think corporations are people, it tells me we need to be sure the next Justice nominated should be President Obama's to nominate.
Obstructionist Republicans came to Congress to tear government apart, they have no other agenda. They are afraid they might have to pay for someone else. Yet someone paid for their education, built roads and bridges, and fought wars that they might live free.
