County Democrats welcome candidates for U.S. House, Railroad Commission
The Burnet County Democratic Club met recently at the Marble Falls Library, and had the chance to hear two candidates in the November general election address issues they see as important in their respective races and in the election ion general. An enthusiastic group greeted Dale Henry, the Democrat running for Texas Railroad Commission. He gave an interesting talk on the responsibilities of the commission. He stressed that one important thing at stake is for Texas to have plenty of safe water for drinking. He also noted that the petroleum industry is a great benefit to our state's economy, but that should not come at the expense of our environment or our fresh water supply. Henry noted that he is a petroleum engineer and has worked on many water commissions and local boards and so has the experience to address this issue. A spirited question-andanswer period followed his speech.
The next speaker was Elaine Henderson, who is seeking election to Congressional District 25. She is from the Lago Vista area. Henderson explained that she is concerned with the E-slate voting machines. So many voters do not understand that, when they vote a straight ticket to cast their vote all the way down the ballot, some people then go back and try to vote separately for the presidential candidate and actually cancel out their vote. It
should be stressed to voters that they should carefully review the recap page to make sure they have voted for everyone they have chosen.
Guy Stuart, president of Burnet County Democratic Club, urged members to see that all of their neighbors and friends are registered and ready to vote in the November election. The meeting was adjourned and members held an informal discussion with the two candidates.
